Universal Studios Japan’s Super Nintendo World is getting closer and closer to launch, with plans to be open for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Whilst Osaka may be a bit far for some to travel, there are plans to build Super Nintendo World in the American parks and Singapore in the future too.
At a press event on Tuesday, Thierry Coup, the chief creative officer at Universal Creative, announced that the park will feature wrist bands, named ‘Power Up Bands’ that track your activity around the park via an app on your smartphone. As you walk around the park you’ll be able to challenge other people in the park, and gather digital coins. It’s not yet known what you’ll be able to do with the coins, but it would make sense if you could exchange them for something in the park. According to Coup, the ideas is to make Super Nintendo World a “life-size, living video game”.
