SEGA have revealed a new Japanese trailer for the SEGA Ages version of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, showing off the new features in this version and everything you can expect from this ultimate version of the Mega Drive game.

Watch the new trailer:

The SEGA Ages version of the game will feature a variety of modes for you to play in. There’ll be an Original Mode which is a faithful recreation of the Mega Drive version, but things get interesting with the new additions. The Drop Dash from Sonic Mania will be included in the game – as well as way to display your ‘Ring Chain’ – the amount of rings you pick up before getting hit. Two player co-op will also be supported.

If you’re not used to Sonic The Hedgehog 2, you may want to try the Ring Keep mode – which lets you keep hold of half your rings when damaged, and gives you 10 to begin the game.

When you clear Original or Ring Keep Mode, you’ll unlock Super Sonic Mode – which lets you play with 50 rings and all the Chaos Emeralds from the get go. This’ll give you a huge boost in speed and strength, and Sonic will look incredible, obviously.

Perhaps the most exciting addition however, is the new Knuckles mode. This feature was originally locked behind owning both Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Sonic & Knuckles, but it’s now built in to the game. You’ll be able to reach areas with Knuckles that you can’t with Sonic or Tails – and all the modes are available.

Challenge Mode has also been added, which is a time trial where you need to collect 100 rings to win as either Sonic or Knuckles.

When it comes to special features, you’ll be able to switch between the Japanese and western versions
