We were all waiting to see which 10 Mega Drive Games would be joining the likes of Golden Axe and Alex Kidd on the Mega Drive Mini. Then – BOOM! SEGA go and spoil us with 10 new titles and an extra 2 on top!
Well well well. 12 new games announced for the SEGA Mega Drive Mini. Two more than we were expecting and two that it’s safe to say pretty much nobody saw coming! First let’s look at those we could have predicted – amongst the latest additions we have Virtua Fighter 2, Alisia Dragoon, Monster World IV, Kid Chameleon, Road Rash II, Eternal Champions, Columns, Dynamite Headdy, Strider & Light Crusader. All in all, a list that continues SEGA’s policy of generosity when it comes to well-loved titles while also throwing a couple of curve-balls in the mix.
On top of those ten – we have Tetris and 2D shooter Darius.
Tetris is more than a little unexpected, since it never made it onto the original Mega Drive. A fairly fundamental issue – SEGA didn’t have the rights – meant that only a handful of copies exist. Taito’s 1986 shooter Darius was also a surprise inclusion. Whilst it never officially made it onto the original Mega Drive, a fan-made version did. And now here it is in some form or another on the Mega Drive mini in 2019! Your guess is as good as ours, but in the meantime that’s two additional games on top of 40 well-chosen games confirmed for the Mega Drive Mini.
