Welcome back to Retrounite! If you’ve checked in on us over the last few days, you may have noticed that we were having some… difficulties. Specifically, we were the victim of a random malware attack which rendered the homepage unusable, plastering it with spam; the rest of the site seemed to be okay, but unfortunately that front page was not something we were willing to just leave as is. To make matters worse, the malware had buried itself pretty deep, making it very difficult to remove — often we’d seemingly fix things, only for it to break again after an hour or two.

It’s taken a good few days and the hard work of some wonderful individuals behind the scenes (thank you, Mike!), but we’re finally back up and running once again — and you may have noticed a few tweaks to the design of the site.

Since recovering from the attack necessitated pretty much a complete rebuild of Retrounite, we’ve made a few changes here and there that should hopefully mean getting around is more pleasurable and the site in general is nicely readable on a variety of devices. Among other things, we’ve added an optional dark theme — hit the switch on the right side of the page if you want to turn the lights out. Right now this only works on desktop, but we’ll see if we can’t get it up and running on mobile devices too.

With the complete rebuild in mind, please be aware that we may have a few difficulties until we’re sure absolutely everything is where it should be. I’ve gone through and corrected image URLs this evening so hopefully you shouldn’t see any broken image links, but please let us know if you stumble across any. Likewise, if you wander into any part of Retrounite and find something that doesn’t appear to be working as it should, please let us know — your best bet for the moment is through a comment on the affected page.

Now that we’ve fixed all this, we should be able to get back to a more regular schedule of posting your favourite retro gaming content each week. Apologies if you happened to stumble across us while we were having our troubles — suffice to say that security has been bumped up considerably, lots of new tech is in place behind the scenes and with any luck this will not happen again.

In the meantime, check out some of the stuff we’ve posted recently, like this awesome video of a modern Power Drift remake, a look at Epyx’s Summer Games and its sequel and our excited first look at the newly announced Renovation Collection cartridge for the Evercade.

And for now, happy retro gaming — we’ll see you with some brand new features to enjoy very soon.
