Back in early 2021, where the industry was still slowly working to regain its footing, I ran a story on a new company joining the arcade fray – PLAYMIND. Based out of Montreal, PLAYMIND had developed a new multiplayer and multi-game ball toss video concept called the PLAYBOX. This was present at IAAPA 2021 and has appeared at various trade shows since. In case this is new to you, here’s a video:
Having been on the market for sometime now, this has allowed Playmind to collect data to adjust and improve it. To that end, they’ve unveiled a revamped version. Per the email:
Our upcoming version of the PLAYBOX is set to redefine the entertainment landscape with a range of enhancements encompassing design, structural, and functional improvements. Our commitment ensures that the PLAYBOX reaches the forefront of the industry.
Here’s the new design, which features a 15% smaller footprint, a ceiling fence (other vendors at tradeshows will appreciate that, but I’m sure it will help locations), a backlit marquee, a “premium” artwork wrap, LED lightning that is synched to the in-game action, plexiglass screen protector, easier assembly/disassembly, enhanced sensors for better accuracy and a new “Ball-Retainer System for securely holding balls when games are not in progress.”
They are also offering a pre-IAAPA show special although if interested you’ll have to contact them directly about it.
I’m not sure if any new games have been added to it lately but here’s an image showing the current line-up that was included in the email. Generally when I’ve come across it the Zombies! game was getting played although to me the most interesting one is Rift Explorer – The Lost Temple –.
